Solid product with some really bad quirks. Three reasons not to buy this device:1) It's very slow. Toshiba comes through again! I bought one of these as I already own two six head VCR's and a Toshiba television. Ridiculously difficult. They warn you - its like a computer. Too good to be true... I bought this recorder after reading super-positive comments in this very forum. Professional Quality DVD Recorder. This DVD recorder works better than any of the others. Good but not quite there yet. I finally decided to try DVD recording and bought a D-KR2. A Fantastic Buy! -- Not. I researched DVD Recorders for the last year and a half while waiting for the prices to come down and quality to improve. Disappointment. I received the product quickly, but it was defective. Fantastic Recorder - Not For Dummies ! The Toshiba DVD recorder has too many great features to list in small review. Keep it simple. I have had this machine for about a month and have thought about returning it several times.

Professional Features. This DVD recorder worked better than any of the others But that was when I first purchased it nearly a year ago. So disappointed! I've had this product for almost a year now and I've been happily recording and watching TV shows, etc. Picky on Discs. I really regret buying this. Stay away-wastes discs, convoluted interface. I could play craps and have better odds winng than I would of getting a working burn with this coaster maker. YOU MUST USE THE RECOMMENDED DISCS. TOSHIBA D-R2 - TAKE 3 (note: trying to change stars to a 3 or 4)It's been quite the epic saga with this machine, however now that I've figured it all out, I'm happy to share the information so if you buy one, you'll know how to make it work for you w/o wasting time & money. Difficulty resolved. I just bought the Toshiba D-R2. Important Information. I must say that I never thought that buying a DVD Recorder would give me so much grief. Annoyances and one defect. I was pleased with this unit when it first arrived. Just what i was looking for. I love this machine! Beware!! You cannot record HBO movies with this device! This, and all Toshiba brand DVD recorders contain provisions that prevent you from copying any materials that contain a copy protection prevention signal from the premium cable services.

Incomprehensible user interface. The Toshiba DVD recorder seems like it was created as a textbook example of how not to engineer a user interface. An Excellent Machine for the Price. I have had my toshiba D-R2 for about a month now and I am thoroughly enjoying it. A Masterpiece -- Get Them Before They're Gone. I have had some regular experience with many DVD players, and rather unhappy experience with three DVD recorders. The Disc Error Machine. The Toshiba D-R2 would have been more appropriately named the Toshiba R2-D2 because it's just as quirky as the robot of Star Wars fame.
